Music lovers will rave about the music of RTMC: Emraan Hashmi

After the musical blockbuster of 2008, Jannat, Emraan Hashmi is all set to return this winter with his most awaited and expensive horror flick till date, Raaz-The Mystery Continues (RTMC) which is produced by Vishesh Films and released by SONY BMG.

Emraan Hashmi’s former flicks have all been of high concept and style and have presented its actors with challenging roles. No wonder, for this Mohit Suri directed film, he is very optimistic regarding it’s success and knows that the audience will also appreciate this film.

Considered to be a lucky charm that attracts great music in all his films, he also believes that he has yet another chartbuster album up his sleeves in the form of RTMC.

He says, “Music lovers will rave about the music of RTMC. It is truly an album that goes beyond all other existing ones from my preceding films.”

While it is never a surprise to see brilliant music from the Bhatt camp, the buzz is that RTMC features songs that are truly outstanding in terms of compositions, musical arrangement and sheer groove. The soundtrack features 4 talented composers, out of which the majority is very new. Yet, collectively, they get together to create a soundtrack which promises to make waves this winter. In addition, with Emraan Hashmi’s unbelievable mass appeal to boast of, the songs are anyways expected to go an extra distance.

SONY BMG has worked with Vishesh Films earlier this year in ‘Jannat’ and this time around with RTMC, apart from the rocking music, the company has also partnered in production of RTMC. This signifies the union of two very powerful stables – Vishesh Films and SONY BMG.

Says an industry insider, “The film itself is exceptionally well made, courtesy some good work yet again by Vishesh Films that has always made a human connection with its viewers.”

Mukesh Bhatt adds, “The film is being termed as a supernatural thriller and is not at all a sequel to RTMC. Instead it deals with the depiction of the ‘evil within’ with relation to modern times. Its technical aspects with stylizing and special effects have made this film a much awaited one.”

RTMC hits the screens all over on 23rd January 2009.

From reel to real!

Emraan Hashmi seems to be taking his role as an artist in Mohit Suri’s Raaz 2 rather seriously.

For he’s started dressing, looking and acting all arty these days; what’s more, he’s actually lost 10 kgs to get the exact ‘look’! Mohit insisted Emraan loses all the extra mass and so, Emraan went on a crash diet, cutting off bread, pastries, cheese and junk food from his diet. And now, from 76 kgs, he’s a happy 66 kgs! Speaking about this conscious weight-loss effort which he started in February this year, Emraan says “If you’re serious about it, it’s not so difficult. The results were the biggest motivation, encouraging me to stick to the schedule. Along with the change in diet, I walk and run often too. But I stayed clear of fat burners because those tax the liver and kidneys,” says Emraan. And in order to further epitomise the creative look of an artist, he’s also spiked his hair, grown a beard, khol-ed his eyes and loaded up on junk jewellery and walks around with a jhola! Who knows, he might just start painting too!

Raaz - The Mystery Continues - Music Preview

Any follower of Bollywood, especially when it comes to good music, would certainly know by heart the entire catalogue that Vishesh Films has created in last two decades. And now when Bhatt brothers are ready to strike again with Raaz - The Mystery Continues (which is not a sequel to Raaz and mainly extends the horror-n-mystery genre forward), their music is in news once again.

Would it impress yet again, just like majority of films coming from the house of Bhatts do? Would it have soulful tunes which would make Raaz - TMC yet another addition to the enviable music catalogue of the Bhatts? Would Emraan Hashmi's lucky charm rub over Raaz - TMC too when it comes to popularity of music? Would Raaz - TMC match up to Raaz that had some haunting melodies by Nadeem-Shravan and still registers sales at the music stands?

This writer had an exclusive hearing of the film's songs and it can be comfortably stated that Raaz - TMC would be yet another winner up the sleeves of Vishesh Films. Here is presenting a brief look at what to expect from the soundtrack of Raaz - TMC: The song which impresses most is 'Maahi' which is sung by Toshi. A melodious love song with a haunting theme to it, it would be certainly loved by those who fell for numbers like 'To Phir Aayo' and 'Tera Mera Rishta' from Awarapan.

Also, for those who still like their music to belong to the 'Bheege Hoth Tere' mood, there is 'Soniye' which is a soft rock duet by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. Yet another romantic outing!

Ever so reliable K.K. is entrusted the responsibility of creating a club house track with a thump - 'O Jaana'. If at all a song is expected to arrive in more than just a couple of remix versions, it would be this. Rhythmic and very Western in feel, the number should go all the distance.

Balance two tracks in Raaz - TMC are situational with theme track 'Kaisa Yeh Raaz Hai' coming first. A haunting number that has a slow pace to it, it is expected to appear across the film's narrative. A number that is primarily orchestra driven, it is second song in a row for K.K.

However, Krishna sings the concluding number 'O Banda Re' which is made of 'shlokas' and 'mantras' and has a mix of 'sufi' sound too! A unique experiment, it carries the theme of the film with it, though with a loud orchestra accompanying it.

Well, while the first 100 second teaser of the film has anyways made a smash impression already, what with director Mohit Suri ensuring that he gets it right in his first ever horror film, the music too makes an instant impression while promising at least a couple of big chartbusters in the making.

A detailed review would follow soon. Watch this space!

Mohit Suri upbeat on Raaz - The Mystery Continues

MUMBAI: Raaz - The Mystery Continues director Mohit Suri is a relieved man. The trailer of his horror movie, which is being co-produced by Vishesh Films and Sony BMG has been received well by the audiences.

The trailer was screened with Fashion and Golmaal Returns. Suri says, "Obviously all of us were anxious to about the first look of RTMC. However, when we saw it for the first time ourselves in the preview theatre, we knew we had cracked it."

RTMC is slated to hit theatres on 23 January, 2009 and stars Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman.

Suri adds, "All of us had an idea of what the trailer would do and to achieve it the look and feel of the trailer that was discussed and worked over a lot. I think this is the longest time to crack the first trailer in the history of Vishesh, which is close to 40 films old."

"Both Mr. Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt were exhilarated by the trailer, and were confident it would do wonders, but the response has been over-whelming and surpassed all our expectations. Ours and SONY BMG phones haven't stopped ringing once people saw the trailer. The film trade guys and the distributors have been calling us non-stop," he says.

Raaz 2 difficult but enjoyable

The intertwining of good and evil as portrayed in Indian mythology has inspired director Mohit Suri’s latest horror Raaz- The Mystery Continues, trailers of which were released recently. “Mystic saint Kabir used to say that the greatest evils are inside you. Indian mythology also talks about a good side and bad side of human being and my film portrays just that,” Suri said.

The young director is confident that the musical would pave a way for future horror films in Bollywood.

“Our horror films are always made on a small budget. Even Raaz, which was a box office success, was made with small budget and a brand new star cast. Filmmakers in India are still not confident enough to explore this genre. But my film is going to change this perception,” he says.

The director feels that horror films in India are remakes of western concept which has not done much good to the genre.

“Raaz... is deeply rooted in the Indian mythological concept and I hope that audiences will identify with the story,” the director says.

Suri, who has directed films like Zeher, Awaarapan and Kalyug, is experimenting with horror for the first time.

“It has been a difficult but completely enjoyable process for me” is how he describes his experience of working for the film.

Raaz— The Mystery Continues is one of the most ambitious projects of Bhatt camp, who are hoping to recreate the magic of their previous horror film starring Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea.

Mohit says he is well aware of the responsibilities and expectations of the audiences and has given his best effort for the film.

It took six months for Mohit to convince Mahesh Bhatt to make this big budget film. The film is scheduled for release on 23rd January 2009.

The film stars Bhatt camp’s blue eyed boy Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman in lead characters. With films like Phoonk and 1920 doing good business at the box-office, the director hopes that audiences would like this musical supernatural film.

“It is a good background for the film.

I always feel that if a film is liked it has something right in it. I may or may not agree with it but it has something which makes it click with them,” he says talking about the recently released horror films.

Mohit is also enthusiastic about the response the trailer of the film is generating.

“The response to the trailer made me really happy and now the realisation of public’s expectations from the movie has just set in. I am making sure the film scares them as much as the trailer did,” he says.

When asked that Bhatt camp has always maintained the new film not a sequel to their previous film Raaz despite the speculations on the title of the film, Suri says “it is not a sequel to Raaz, which will always remain as a landmark in the history of horror films. “Raaz is the first brand of supernatural musical hit film and Raaz — The Mystery Continues is the second film of this brand,” he says.

Interview : Mohit Suri

Mohit Suri directed 'RAAZ -THE MYSTERY CONTINUES' is one of the most anticipated projects in the film industry. Sharing a name with one of the biggest successes in Indian film history in the genre RAAZ, also a Vishesh Films Production, and the colossal success of the banner's last film JANNAT, the movie has justifiably generated much interest and its fair share of controversy. Starring Bhatt camp's blue eyed boy Emraan Hashmi with Kangana Ranaut in the female lead and introducing Adhyayan Suman, the film is set to release on January 23, 2009. We met the acclaimed director on location a couple of days after the movie's first theatrical trailer released across cinemas in India.

How have people responded to the first theatrical trailer?
You tell me! (laughs). No seriously, we've had an amazing response. People have been messaging and calling me all through these holidays and also everyone in the cast has received all this feedback saying how much they liked the trailer and how they can't wait to see the movie and when is it releasing. It's really gratifying.

Is it true that Mahesh Bhatt and you had a fight about the trailer?
Not a fight (smiles), but yes, there were really strong creative differences. I wanted a trailer without any dialogue, where the visual and musical impact would be the focus. Mr. Bhatt felt there needed to be some dialogue. I had to really fight to get my way on this one. There was a lot of heat!

So is he still mad at you?
A: No, because the trailer really worked. And I think he also liked the final product before it went on screen. From the responses of audiences it's obvious that it's had a fantastic impact, the best I could imagine, and that's what really matters. Also we thought the timing was perfect - because around Diwali day - the epitome of light, there was the Kali Chaudas holiday on one side - which is considered the blackest of all nights and Halloween on the other, another superbly horrifying night. It's a nice imagery for a horror film...finding the light within the surrounding darkness.

It's not a sequel to the original RAAZ though?
It's certainly not a sequel in the traditional sense, in that, there is no continuity in story line, no 'jumping off point' from the last movie nor is there cast or character continuity. It is in the same genre as RAAZ and a Vishesh films production, but it's a totally fresh story, and a fresh approach.

Why a horror film?
Horror is a genre that I believe has not been explored to its fullest potential in India. Somehow you always feel it's on the back foot in the Indian film industry. I love the genre. In fact both Emraan (Hashmi) and I grew up watching horror films, and it's been our dream to make a really good Indian horror film. I'm thrilled we're finally getting to do this.

Well, thank you for talking to us. All the best for your film. We're looking forward to it.
